Positive self-talk can assist you in feeling better about yourself and make you more optimistic about life.

Everyone has an inner dialogue, but how we speak to and about ourselves can sometimes be harmful. The way you communicate with yourself may make or break your day, especially in uncertain circumstances.

Sometimes we don’t even realise how negative we are or how often we criticise ourselves. To start changing our internal dialogue, we must become more conscious of our pessimism and learn to recognise ourselves when we are being unreasonable or harsh. Identify this inclination in order to prevent it from progressing.

The five techniques listed below can assist you in feeling better about yourself and make you more optimistic about life.

1. Practice concentrated breathing.

  • Various breathing techniques have a good effect on general mental health, according to decades of studies.

  • Refrain from speaking negatively to yourself when you catch yourself doing it and take two minutes to practise focused breathing.
  • Regardless of the breathing technique you use, altering your patterns of thinking will assist you in altering your mental processes, and conscious breathing will improve your physical well-being.

2. Make a gratitude list.

  • Expressing gratitude for all of life’s little blessings may provide a real mental boost.
  • Consider what you could complete in a day, such as making the bed, having a shower, and walking the dog.
  • That might not seem like much, but when you’re sick or stressed out, those are undeniable victories.
  • If we pay attention to the little things, we could discover that life is, overall, a little more optimistic than we let ourselves believe.

3. Shift your attention.

  • Making gratitude lists is merely one approach to focus on and highlight the positive.
  • Spend some time each day focusing on or seeking out the good things that contribute to your personal well-being.
  • Make time in your schedule to start your day on the balcony, sipping tea and admiring the birds, if that is what lifts your spirits.
  • Give it high importance. If your dog gives you a sweet look, pay attention to it and tell yourself that this happens frequently.
  • Pay attention to the things that bring you joy.

4. Feel your feelings.

  • All emotions, including grief, loss, and sadness, need space to be expressed; otherwise, they start to fester and lead to undesirable acts and inner dialogue.
  • It’s okay to feel hurt and enraged.
  • Allow those who you can trust to simply be with you while you express your thoughts freely.
  • Even though it may be difficult, expressing your concerns helps them to leave your body, allowing you to go on and be present in your life for the good that will come.

5. Change your story.

  • Our perspective is shaped by the narratives we tell ourselves about our life.
  • You will experience the negativity you have created for yourself if you tell yourself that your relationship or career is undesirable, draining, or not what you deserve.
  • Change it if you think a circumstance or connection isn’t what you need.
