“Career Counselling at ICS is a complete learning experience”

Some students know what they want to study and pursue as their career. They can easily choose from among the plenty of opportunities available, today. Then there are those who find this overabundance daunting — akin to setting sail for uncharted waters.

I was a part of the latter group and my navigation came in the form of the Institute for Career Studies (ICS).

The career counselling provided there brought to the fore my personality, interests and aptitudes. On the basis of these, Dr Amrita Dass (Founder-Director, ICS) and other senior counsellors introduced me to the universities and programmes that were best suited for me.

I went on to study at the University of British Columbia — which turned out to be one of the most impactful experiences of my life (https://www.ubc.ca/).

I am truly grateful to ICS for introducing me to this breathtakingly beautiful campus in Vancouver, which has amazing diversity and a top-notch faculty. There’s an earnest effort to provide students with research-oriented, holistic and compassionate education.

UBC met all my expectations of what I wanted in a centre of higher learning.

‘Higher education not just about academics’

Higher education is a complete experience — one that lays the foundations of independence and growth. This is not something that can be understood from university websites alone. It requires experience, guidance and perspective — everything that ICS brings to the table. The inputs that I got from my counsellors were detailed, university and course-specific, and tailored to my specific needs.

Advice to students: ‘Start planning early’

Today, there are lots of opportunities and programmes to explore. The real test lies in choosing your ideal career fit. So, start planning early — before you enter the busy years of board exams preparation.

Also, be open-minded. While it is good to have an understanding of what you want, take care not to be rigid. If you refuse to be flexible, you may miss out on opportunities that you may be unaware of but which could be compatible with your dreams and aptitudes!

‘NEW HORIZONS OPENED UP FOR MY DAUGHTER’

I first heard about the institute from my colleagues in the police fraternity. They spoke highly of Dr Amrita Dass.

At that time, I was looking for professional guidance for Kasturi, to enable her to pursue undergraduate studies abroad. We approached ICS to guide her during the application process — to match her credentials with the best universities.

This seemingly difficult process was made simple for us through the professional evaluation and counselling provided by ICS and Dr Dass’ able guidance at every stage.

ICS opened up new horizons for my daughter.

Even today, Kasturi is in touch with her mentors there, discussing further plans for her career. We feel confident that professional guidance is always available for her.

I recommend ICS to everyone looking for professional guidance for their children. I do this confidently, always!
